Roadmap to set up privacy Google Analytics
If you use Google Analytics, you can adjust the settings so that the cookies are covered by the amended cookie law. Specifically, there are four steps that need to be met to comply with the cookie law even after the law change.
Enter into a processor agreement with Google
Pursuant to Article 14 of the Personal Data Protection Act (Wbp), you, as the responsible party, must conclude a processor agreement with Google. This agreement states that Google will only act as a processor when processing the personal data of your website visitors.
The agreement is easy to enter into via a standard setting in Google Analytics.
- Log in to Google Analytics.
- Go to 'Admin'.
- Go to 'Account settings'.
- Check the checkbox under 'Data processing conditions for this account are not accepted.' tick.
- Click 'Save'.
Don't share all your data with Google
Standard has checked in Google Analytics settings that you share data with Google. Among other things, this data is used for benchmark analysis, technical support and access for Google account specialists.
You can easily change these settings via your Google Analytics account under 'Admin', then go to 'Account settings'. Uncheck all four options here and click ' Save'.
Limiting the information shared provides a balance between gaining useful insights and protecting the privacy of both users and the organisation.
Let your user know that you use Analytics
Create a clearly defined section on your website where visitors can easily see how you process personal data. You can include this within your privacy statement or include a separate page for this. Inform visitors of the fact that you have carried out the above steps to handle their personal information confidentially. Name the steps you have taken:
- The fact that you use analytical cookies (e.g. Google Analytics).
- Indicate that you have entered into a processor agreement with the provider of the web analytics package.
- Anonymised the visitor's IP address.
- Finally, indicate that you do not share the data you collect using these analytical cookies with other parties, such as Google or within other Google products.
We recommend using Cookiebot. This is a smart tool to regulate everything around cookies on your website, in accordance with the current cookie law as well as the upcoming AVG and Privacy regulations.
