Since 2011, MessageBird has been connecting large and small businesses directly with their customers through billions of devices around the world. Within Booking Experts your MessageBird account is used to send SMS messages to your guests. We use this for the key codes that can be sent by SMS. You cannot send your own prepared SMS to guests.


Create a MessageBird account

To use SMS notifications from Booking Experts you need your own MessageBird account, from this account we can send the messages to your guests. To create an account you must go through the following steps:

1. Go to the MessageBird website;
2. Click on the top right on Sign up;

3. Fill in the details;

4. After fully entering the account details you will receive a mail in which you must activate your account;
5. After this, you can log in with this account on MessageBird.

Settings for SMS Messaging

After you are logged in you need to go through 6 steps to set up the settings for SMS Messaging. To get to these steps you need to:

1. Hover with your mouse over your company name in the top right to open a drop-down menu;
2. Choose Setup Guide;

3. Then choose SMS Messaging and go through the steps;

4. After going through all the steps you can sends messages via MessageBird.


Create API Key

When you have gone through all the steps to create a complete MessageBird account, you need to create an Access Key from which we can send the SMS messages to your guests/operators. Go through the following steps for this:

1. Go in the left menu to Developers;
2. Click in the top menu on API access (REST);
3. Make an access key by clicking on + ADD ACCESS KEY;

4. Give the Acces Key a name;
5. Select Live to be able to actually send SMS messages;
6. Add the Acces Key.

After creating an Access Key you can view and copy it.
You then enter the Access Key at the administration settings of Booking Experts.

Enter MessageBird access key in Booking Experts

When you have generated the MessageBird access key, you can copy it and enter it in Booking Experts:

1. Go to the general settings by clicking on the Gear icon;
2. Select in the right submenu Other administration settings and navigate to the tab Other;
3. Enter under MessageBird access key the key that you just copied;
4. Do not forget to save the administration.

What happens if I have entered an incorrect access key by mistake?

In the event that you have entered an incorrect access key, you will receive an internal message when sending the next SMS.

In this message, the reason is loaded from MessageBird.

You will then be given the option to solve the problem and to enter the correct access key.

What happens when I no longer have a credit?

In the event that your MessageBird balance is inadequate, you will receive an internal message when sending the next SMS.

In this message, the reason is loaded from MessageBird.

To be able to send SMS messages again you first have to top up your balance with MessageBird.
